Vale Craig Hole

2nd June 2025

It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge and honour Craig Hole’s contribution to the MacKillop Farm Management Group and the agricultural industry.

Craig was instrumental in the formation of the MacKillop Farm Management Group, serving on the Committee from 2004 to 2007 and making a lasting impact through his years of dedicated service.

His influence on MFMG extended far beyond his time as a Board member - his agronomic expertise, wisdom and generous support remained a cornerstone of the group’s success, enthusiastically emceeing the 2018 twentieth anniversary celebration dinner.

Affectionately known as “Holey”, Craig had a deep knowledge and passion for agronomy drawn from a broad and accomplished career across the agricultural sector. He was a trusted advisor on MFMG trial work, often called upon to assist with trial design and protocol development. His insights helped ensure the results were independent, practical and valuable to growers and agronomists.

If there was an agronomic problem that no-one else could help us with, we would ring Holey, or call into a coffee shop in Naracoorte, chances are we would find him there, and he would always come up with a solution. Craig’s strong industry connections with seed, fertiliser and chemical companies, alongside his trusted relationships with senior managers and research and development specialists provided a valuable conduit for MFMG to access opportunities and collaborate meaningfully with industry.

Craig informally mentored many within the MFMG community, particularly early career agronomists, leaving a legacy of knowledge-sharing and encouragement.  His natural ability to create a welcoming and engaging environment contributed greatly to the popularity and impact of MFMG events.

Throughout his career, Craig’s loyalty to IAMA and later Nutrien Ag Solutions was unwavering and was matched equally by the deep respect he earned from fellow agronomists and the broader agricultural industry.

We will remember Craig for his passion, generosity of spirit, friendly banter, advocacy and extensive contribution to agriculture. A much loved character of the agricultural community, Craig leaves an enduring legacy and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
