Summer 'Sticky Beak Friday'

Sticky Beak Fridays are all about looking over the fence to see how other farmers run their businesses. Throughout the series, we’ll be visiting a variety of different businesses throughout the Limestone Coast and Western Victoria, learning from our hosts and each other, and having a look at the new, the old, the successful and the not-so-successful!

Our Summer Sticky Beak will visit Mundoolun Dairy at Mount Schank and Ardno Performance Livestock and The Barn at Mount Gambier.

At Mundoolun Dairy we’ll hear about:

• Dairy and beef operations

• Fodder crops including maize and lucerne 

• Pastures

At Ardno Performance Livestock and the Barn we’ll hear about:

• Stud and commercial cattle operations

• Genetic selection and the difference between selecting for a stud herd and selecting for a commercial herd

• Restaurant and accommodation business

About Mundoolun Dairy:

• Mundoolun Dairy is a family run farm, that operate three properties in the Mount Schank area. The family is made up of Trevor, Lyn, Travis and Justin Telford. The dairies have a hearty number of 18 staff, some being locals and a few being backpackers from abroad. Mundoolun has been running for 24 years.

About Ardno Performance Livestock:

• Ardno Performance Livestock is a family run enterprise owned by the Comleys, who also operate a commercial cattle herd and the Barn. Ardno Performance Livestock purchased Ardno, one of Australia’s oldest and most prominent Hereford studs, in 2015. The family has gone on to produce both Hereford and Angus bulls in their stud operation.

MFMG Members - First Ticket $50, Additional tickets for MFMG primary producer members $30
