Washpool Trial Information

Pasture trials being conducted at "The Washpool" in 2010

There are  4 x 4 hectare ‘plots’ sown on heavy black flat country as follows:

Mix 1 (our current standard mix)

• SARDI Persian Clover @ 2kg
• Paradana Balansa Clover @ 1kg
• Gosse Sub Clover @ 5kg
• Scimitar Burr Medic @ 2kg
• Sirosa Phalaris @ 2kg

Mix 2 (alternative grass mix)

• SARDI Persian Clover @ 2kg
• Paradana Balansa Clover @ 1kg
• Gosse Sub Clover @ 5kg
• Scimitar Burr Medic @ 2kg
• Barbaria Ryegrass @ 10kg

Mix 3 (Naracoorte Seeds recomendation for this environment)

• Trikkala Sub Clover @ 4kg
• Goulurn Sub Clover @ 4kg
• Prosper Tall Fescue (winter active) @ 3.5kg
• Dovey Tall Fescue (summer active) @ 4kg
• Ambassador Cocksfoot @ 2kg
• Sirosa Phalaris @ 2kg

Mix 4 (Experimental Mix)

• SARDI 7 lucerne @ 6kg
• Puna Chicory @ 1kg
• Grouse Chicory @ 1kg
• Prosper Tall Fescue @ 3kg

Other information

• This (and the other trial sites once established next year) will be followed through with grazing and normal management for a number of years with pasture cuts and other measurements.
• Cuts done on this site on October 12th 2010 showed a range of 400 to 1200 kg Dry Matter between the treatments.
• 400 Merino weaners grazed it from Oct 14th to Nov 3rd (3 weeks); they were taken out partly because the feed was getting too far ahead of them and we were worried about flies in the tall pasture.
