AIM

To demostrate productive and profitable alternatives in cropping rotations and perennial pasture options in HRZ regions which are established, managed and measured in real SE SA farming situations.

Ultimately these types of crop rotations or pasture solutions can provide risk management in mixed farming operations especially in seasons were too much OR not enough moisture is a limiting factor.

a. Provide exposure to new varieties and advanced germ-plasm that can increase production, persistence and/or flexibility in HRZ mixed farming situations

b. High DM production - for grazing, hay, silage or green manure

c. Use of Perennial, self replacing or annual legumes to increase Nitrogen fixation

c. Integrated weed control methods, including competition and enabling the use of alternative herbicide groups

d. Use of different species to break disease lifecycles whilst still providing productive and profitable pastures
